The river is alive with the sound of music

Continuing a summer tradition in Roaring River State Park, a variety of Bluegrass bands will be performing every Friday night from May 6 to Sept. 30.

Wayne Clevenger, member of The Flyin Buzzards, said he is excited for this summer full of music.

Some band that will perform this summer include:

• The Flyin Buzzards

• Sugar Mountain Band

• Route 3

• Ozark Mt. Revival

• No Apparent Reason

• Stillwater Drive

• Shuyler Valley Band

• Ozark Mt. Four

• Chigger Creek Band

• Possum Trot Band

The Bluegrass events are all free admission.

“We will be set up at the Roaring River Shelter,” Clevenger said. “We have done this for 13 years or more. I’d tell people to bring lawn chairs and come to have a good time. We put out a tip box for the bands. That is the only money the bands receive, but the event is completely free to the public.”

Clevenger said the event is an experience for the bands, but it means so much to the people who come to watch.

The first performance will be on Friday.

“It starts at 7 p.m. then goes until about 9 p.m.,” Clevenger said. “This repeats every Friday night through Sept. 30.”

There are some extra special holiday events scheduled for the summer.

“On Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day, we will also host Saturday performances,” he said. “And of course on Kids Free Fishing Day at Roaring River, there will be music at the Show Wagon for people to enjoy that day, as well as that night at the Shelter. This is some good old-fashioned fun.”

People are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to enjoy the show.
