Delinquent tax sale upcoming

The office of Barry County Collector Skyler Bowman is preparing for the annual Barry County Real Estate Delinquent Tax Sale. Missouri law requires that land with three years of delinquent taxes sell on the fourth Monday of August each year. The first official publication of this sale appeared in the Cassville Democrat on July 13, and copies are available in the collector’s office. The tax sale listing can be viewed at www.barrycountycollector. com, which will be updated as parcels are paid. Assessor Sherry L. Smith said her office is preparing books that will contain all parcels up for auction this year. Anyone interested in purchasing can go to the Assessor’s or Collector’s offices or call 417-847-4589 or 417-847-2113.

Republican committee to host rally

The Barry County Republican Central Committee will be hosting a rally on July 22 at 6 p.m. at the Cassville High School. A meal will be provided, and all are invited to meet and speak with county and state candidates.

Summer library activities scheduled

Library activities for the coming week include: today (Wednesday), Sew and Sos at 9 a.m., and Creation Station CD coasters at 4 p.m. with registration required; Thursday, Summer Reading Challenge swim party at Cassville Aquatic Center, with ticket required for admittance (pick up tickets at the library until 5 p.m. on Thursday); Monday, Cassville Area Friends of the Library meeting at Cassville Branch Library meeting room at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Sew and Sos at 9 a.m., Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m., Color Me Calm at 4 p.m. and high school to adults painting “Faith, Family, Freedom,” with registration and $5 required, at 6 p.m.

Battle of the Badges on July 30

The Battle of the Badges benefit softball game will be held on July 30, starting at 9 a.m. at the Wheaton school ball fields. The cost is $250 per team, with 10-15 payers per team, and the home run derby is $10 per person. A plate of food is $5. Everyone is invited to participate, and the registration deadline is July 22. Proceeds will benefit Shirley Martell, who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in January 2020. Treatment over the past two years has been challenging, and Martell is currently receiving treatment in Little Rock, Ark. She is married and has two children attending Wheaton schools. Primary absentee voting ongoing

Absentee voting for the Aug. 2 primary is ongoing through Aug. 1 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Clerk’s office will be open on July 30 for absentee voting from 8 a.m. to noon. Voters must present one form of identification to vote, such as a driver’s license or voter registration card. If unable to vote in person, people may send a written request to the office of: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee, party preference, and signature. Forms are also available at the Monett Chamber office, as well as online at sos.mo.gov. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is July 20. Voting equipment to be tested

Barry County Clerk Joyce Ennis reports a public pre-election tabulation test of the electronic tabulating equipment, for the Aug. 2 Primary Election, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on July 21 in the County Clerk’s Office.

Bluegrass in the Park returns for summer

A variety of bluegrass bands will perform every Friday night, from 7-9 p.m., through Sept. 30 at the Roaring River Shelter at Roaring River State Park. About 10 bands will play at some point this summer, and admission to every show is free. A Saturday performance will also be held for Labor Day. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs, and a tip jar will be set up for the bands.

Truck raffle to benefit family

A 2005 single cab shortbed Chevy pickup truck is being raffled to benefit a local family affected by breast cancer. Tickets may be purchased at The Shop by D and L, located at 503 Mill St. in Cassville. Entrants must be 18 years of age, and each ticket is $10. The winner will be drawn at the Wheaton Cruise-In on Oct. 1.

Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. For more information, people may call 417-662-3612.
