Barry County deputy injured in collision with deer

A Barry County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured early Sunday morning in a wreck at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 76, three miles north of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Daniel Harris, 28, of Aurora, was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer westbound when his vehicle swerved to avoid a deer, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Harris suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was wearing a safety device, and the vehicle was totaled.

Danny Boyd, Barry County sheriff, said Harris was returning from a call and not running sirens or lights at the time the incident occurred.
