The city of Wheaton has been working toward a sewer project and has secured funding to move forward.
JoGina Park, Wheaton city clerk, said the funds secured are from the ARPA, or the American Rescue Plan.
‘That was COVID money that was given from the government,” she said. “Most towns around here probably got some of that. The states distributed that money to the cities in two increments.”
The city of Wheaton used the first half of those funds to pay for the CCTV that was recently done on the sewer lines.
“We should receive the other half of the funds by August,” Park said. “Now, there is a new ARPA Grant that is available, and that is the application that we just filled out to try to get the rest of the funds for the rest of the sewer project.”
Park said the exact amount of the distributions was $69,414.24.
The maintenance supervisor could not be reached by presstime to give details on the project’s timeline.
