Southwest sports supporting breast cancer awareness
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, two Southwest schools are sponsoring events in October. The middle school boys and girls basketball teams host Wheaton on Oct. 11, and the high school volleyball team plays Galena on Oct. 13. The events will feature a bake sale, face painting, T-shirts and pink-themed decorations. All proceeds will go to a local breast cancer survivor. Some of the players participating for Southwest include: Seniors Olivia Erwin, Cally Bowyer, Anna Church, Signe Suchowski, and Feanne Damen; and middle schoolers Molly Hendrix, Ashlyn Taylor, Olivia Hnem, Addison Payne, Gracie Swanepoel, Addison Palmer, Sydney Roe, Millie Brinkman, Rylee Phillips, Abisak Hnem and Atley Uthe.
Wildcats fall to College Heights in shootout
It took kicks from the mark to decide a winner in Thursday’s Cassville soccer match against College Heights, with the Wildcats coming up just short. Freshman Cayden Rohde netted the goal in the 1-1 draw after regulation, and the Wildcats fell in the best-of-five shootout, 3-1. The Wildcats (7-7-1) played McDonald County Tuesday and host Aurora Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Lady Wildcats pick up pair of wins
The Cassville softball team (12-10) picked up a pair of wins in a three-game week last week. On Sept. 26, the Lady Wildcats fell to Neosho, 10-0, but rebounded the following day with a win over Reeds Spring, 2-0. Cassville rounded out the week with an 11-0 victory over Aurora on the road Thursday. The Lady Wildcats play at Seneca this Thursday.
Cassville XC run in Lamar
The Cassville cross country team ran in th eLamar Tigers Cross-Country Invitational on Sept. 27, with the girls taking fifth as a team and the boys seventh. Individually Caleb Leach was the boys’ only medalist, taking 14th with a time of 18:06.40. For the girls, three Lady Wildcats earned hardware: Dakotah Anderson 8th in 22:16.10, Kayli Anderson 15th in 23:17.90 and Tori Mitchell 25th in 24:08.40. Full results include:
