The Cassville cross country teams know their course well, as the Lady Wildcats took home a first place team trophy at the Cassville High School Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 4, and the boys finished in second.
Jolie Evans and Caleb Leach led the way yet again for the squads, with Evans posting a second-place finish in 20:46.17, and Leach pushing for third in 17.20.99.
A year ago, Evans took sixth in the event in 21:31, and Leash was 15th in 17:56.
Helping the Lady Wildcats to the team title with medals were Dakota Anderson, who took ninth in 22:34.94, and Tori Mitchell, right behind in 10th in 22:37.36.
For the Wildcats, the only medalist beyond Leach was Charles Elliot, who took 21st place in 18:42.82.
The race was the first after competing in Fayetteville at the annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, one of the largest meets of the season. A total of 500 boys and 387 girls competed in the event, and from schools across the four-state area.
In the boys’ race, Leach was the top finisher in 389th place with a time of 18:40.50. The winner of the race was Southern Boone County High School’s Connor Burns in 14:32.30.
For the girls, Dakotah Anderson was the best finisher in 21:08.10, good for 215th place.
The winner was Haley Loewe, of Bentonville High School (Ark.), in 17:20.50.
