Oct. 18, 1972 Cassville High School Principal Robert LeMon was named Chairman of the Southwest Missouri Association for secondary school principals. The cairman from the local schools will function to formulate plans for various meetings and activities of the association during the school year.

Postal service interviews to fill two postmaster positions in Barry County were held din the first half of October in St. Louis. The open positions included Cassville and Exeter. The Cassville position was created by the retirement of Mr. Gladys I. Smith and the Exeter position was created by the retirement of Gene Terry.

October 13, 1982 Two patrols of Boy Scout Troop 76 in Cassville visited Broken Arm Valley for a scout skill program. Scoutmaster Charles Vaughan said the troop experienced good weather for the fall outing for the first time in several years.

Extensive awards and recognition for Barry County 4-H member work throughout the year were presented in a 4-H program at Calvary Baptist Church. Presentations included those from the outstanding, to district, to tenure service in the youth program. Nancy England, youth educational advisor was in charge of the program, which drew awards from sponsors throughout the county.

Oct.7, 1992 The Cassville Volunteer Fire Department made an unusual;l and first-time call the first week of October 1992 when at 11:30 p.m. Thursday the department was called to the four-way area west of town where a truck hauling disposal chicken parts had inadvertently spilled its load. The department responded with a unit that was used to wash the material from Highway 37.

Cassville student Sarah Brown was named a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Principal Ron Richardson said the R-4 student is one of about 35,000 in the U.S. being honored for outstanding performance in aptitude testing.
