The Cassville City Council voted this month to leave water and sewer rates the same as they are, though about 55 percent of customers will still see a change to their monthly rates.
David Brock, Cassville Public Works director, recommended to the board that no changes be made to water and sewer rates this year.
“There’s a few reasons for that,” he said. “In looking at our draft budget, our revenue is sufficient to meet expenses. We also had an issue with our billing software where more than 1,000 customers were being charged older rates from 2019. Those customers will see a 3.5 percent hike on water and a 6 percent hike on sewer, so we will also see more revenue there.”
Brock said a total of 1,080 sewer customers and 1,090 water customers will be affected.
Based on usage for a family of four, the hike equates to about a $4 rise in utility costs.
Base rates for water are $13.73 per month, plus $4.36 per 1,000 gallons, for homes in city limits and $28.67 per month, plus $8.53 per 1,000 gallons for homes outside city limits.
The sewer base rate is $11.09 per month, plus $8.78 per 1,000 gallons of usage.
