November 1, 1972 Cassville photographer Max Fields mused that he may not be photogenic. Fields said he had made three attempts to have his picture taken for a new drivers’ license, and each time something went wrong. Fields said he can appreciate other people having difficulties with photography.

The Cassville Democrat reported that recent rains had bolstered the flaming fall review, with some of the most outstanding colors of the season the first week of November. The heavy rains and periods of wind stripped some trees of leaves, somewhat reducing the color which had not been outstanding anyway.

40 years ago

October 27, 1982 Ray Manley of Shell Knob purchased Bridgeview Plumbing Company from Rick Holmden. The former owner has departed the lake community for St. Joseph, but the family retained their home there. Manley, formerly with the maintenance department in the Cassville schools, is an experienced plumber
and contractor.

30 years ago

October 21, 1992 Kathleen Bell, Southwest math and science teacher, received an outstanding service award from the Hunter Education Division of the Missouri Department of Conservation. The award, which is given to instructors who have earned 100 credits for teaching hunter education classes, was presented to Bell at an allschool assembly at Southwest by hunter education instructor trainer John Harp.
