The Cassville Police Department is again participating in the D.E.A. Prescription Take Back Day.
This will be held Saturday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the address to drop off the medication is 1401 Old Exeter Road at Walmart. Cassville Police Department will be collecting the substances at a collection site in front of the Store.
Prescription Take Back Day is to help people properly dispose of unused medications. Proper disposal of medication helps to protect the environment and keeps the medicine from being flushed into local water systems.
This also helps keep the medication out of the hands of people who do not have a prescription or need the medication but want to use it for recreational use only.
“We want to encourage people to take the time to clean out their medicine cabinets and properly dispose of their unused pharmaceutical controlled substances,” said Dana Kammerlohr, Cassville police chief. “There has been a change in the type of drugs collected this year: only “pharmaceutical controlled substances.’ No over-the-counter drugs, liquids, inhalers, illegal drugs or sharp objects (i.e.syringes/needles) will not be accepted. No medications can be accepted from medical clinics, pharmacies or veterinary clinics.”
