For those who like homemade cookies or unique quilted items around the holidays, Shell Knob residents have organized an event that can satisfy both cravings.
The women of Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob and the Discovery Quilters of Shell Knob are collaborating with an event on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church on YY Highway.
The ladies of the church will offer a large variety of homemade cookies, which can purchased by the pound, giving buyers an opportunity to try many different kinds. The proceeds from the cookie walk will benefit the Alliance of Churches, and the services they provide to help local neighbors in need. The cookies are sold by the pound, and buyers may choose their own assortment.
Discovery Quilters has been sharing its expertise and skills for many years in Shell Knob. The guild has more than 60 members who support several quilt missions in the community and surrounding areas.
As many as 200 baby quilts are given to mothers and their babies each year through the Barry and Stone County Health Departments, the Purple Flower Domestic Violence Center in Eureka Springs, Ark., and the Pregnancy Lifeline of Stone County.
In addition to the baby quilts, the guild has started offering receiving blankets and burp cloths, both of which have been very popular. The guild has made 13 Quilts of Valor that have been presented to area veterans this year. In addition, members make comfort quilts for friends and family who experience illness or loss.
The guild will offer a variety of items at its boutique on Dec. 3 including potholders, placemats, table toppers, and other things – some that are useful and some that are simply pretty.
The guild’s sales support its programs and activities.
