Woman injured in wreck with tanker

A Republic woman was injured on Jan. 17 in a wreck at 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 37 and Farm Road 2160.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Rebecca Lynch, 52, of Republic, was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra eastbound and failed to yield at the intersection, pulling into the path of a 2019 Peterbilt, being driven by Larry Lyons, 49, of Exeter.

After the collision, the Peterbilt, which was hailing a tanker, went of the road way and struck the former Ruetschi dentistry office. No one was injured, as the building was vacant.

Lynch suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Lyons was not injured.

Lyons was wearing a safety device, and Lynch was not. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

According to Trooper Samuel Carpenter, public information and education officer, the Peterbilt was hauling sludge from George’s Inc. The tanker did not leak, but if it had, Carpenter said the Patrol would call the Environmental Protection Agency or Health Department for guidance, adding hazmat and food products are typically the only concerns.
