Vets can fish free on Opening Day

Charlie 22 Outdoors sponsoring tags for all veterans, active-duty military

Veterans and active-duty military have the opportunity to fish for free on Opening Day, March 1, at Roaring River State Park.

Charlie 22 Outdoors, which has been tapped to fire the Opening Day gun, is offering to purchase tags and provide drinks and a hot lunch for any veterans and active-duty military wishing to go fish.

To register, Individuals must email charlie22outdoors@gmail.com by Monday, Feb. 13. Details will be returned by Friday, Feb. 17.

There are a limited number of registrations available, and they are first-come, first-served.

“We are excited about this opportunity, and we are thrilled to invite others to join us,” a Charlie 22 Outdoors statement said. “We love you all and thank you for your support.”

Charlie 22 Outdoors is a Webb City-based non-profit with the mission to provide outdoor activities to our nation’s veterans, and their families, with the goal of showing them there is hope, love, and a personal meaning in God’s grace.

The name derived from the statistic that 22 veterans a day commit suicide in the U.S., and the organization aims to prevent such tragedies.
