Jim Erwin: The weather may change, but God and his goodness never does

There is a saying in the Ozarks: “If you don’t like the weather, just wait long enough and it will change.”

The weather here can change dramatically.

Temperatures can rise or fall within a couple of hours. You can experience four seasons within a week. However, there is one thing that is predictable and unchanging — the goodness of God.

In the Bible, we are told that God’s goodness is everlasting and that His love endures forever. In Psalm 107:1, it says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

No matter what happens in our lives, we can always count on God’s goodness.

Unlike the weather, which can be unpredictable and uncontrollable, God’s goodness is constant and unchanging. James 1:17 reminds us that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” God’s goodness is not dependent on our circumstances or the changing of the seasons. His goodness is always present, and we can rely on it.

The weather in the Ozarks is confined to a specific geographic location and is subject to the laws of nature.

However, God’s goodness is not limited by time or space.

God’s goodness knows no bounds and is available to everyone, regardless of where they live or what they have done. While the weather in the Ozarks may be unpredictable, we can always count on the predictability of God’s goodness.

It is constant, unchanging, and limitless.

As we navigate the ups and downs of life, let us remember that we serve a God who is always good.
