Southwest NHS welcomes 12 new members

The Southwest High School National Honor Society will induct 12 new members in April. Senior Rachel Willer and Sophomores Abbie Clark, Addison Cotton, Addison Keates, Riley Flippo, Piper King, Kelsee Merritt, Saige Miller, Tristan Morgan, Montana Skelton, Rebecca Swanepoel and Kaleigh Tull were selected recently through a rigorous application process, according to Adviser Steve Voyak. NHS President Signe Suchowski will oversee the induction ceremony on April 12 at 2 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

2023 Southwest Yearbook Order Forms Available

Order forms are now available for the 2023 Southwest yearbook now. The cost is $25 and the deadline to order is May 31. There is an additional charge for adding name stamping and icons. The book features 144 pages and is delivered in August when the 2023-2024 school year begins.

Exeter announces pre-K and kindergarten screening dates

Exeter elementary has announced early childhood preschool, preschool and kindergarten screening dates as April 13-14. Parents of students who need to enroll for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year can call the elementary office at 417-835-2922, ext. 1, to sign up for a time to come in for screening. Parents and guardians will need to bring the student’s immunization record, birth certificate and proof of residence in the district when they come for screening.

Exeter National Honor Society announces blood drive

Exeter National Honor Society has announced its spring blood drive themed “Every Drop Tells a Story” will take place on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the commons area at Exeter school. Those wanting to participate can call 417-227-5006 or register online at www.cbco.or/donate-blood.

Work day at Bayless-Salyer House

The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society is having a work day/cleanup day at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Bayless-Salyer House, located at 9th and Townsend. Handymen and women are needed to help repair the front porch, and also needed is anyone who can push a broom or wash windows.

Democrats group to meet

The regular monthly meeting of Lawrence and Barry County Democrats will be held on Thursday at the Angus Branch Steakhouse, located at 114 Chapel Drive in Monett. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Those wishing to eat should arrive by 5:45 p.m., with each responsible for their own meal. All area Democrats are invited and encouraged to attend.

Preschool, Kinder Academy screening information released

Preschool screening will be held March 28 and March 30. Screenings are open to 3and 4-year-old children living in the Cassville School District. Screenings will be held on campus at Cassville R-IV in the W.I.L.D. Academy, located on Kid Cat Drive. Please park in the gravel parking lot and cross the street. Plan for a 30-45 minute appointment. Call 417-847-2445 to schedule a child’s screening. Appointments will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Screening results will be used to determine eligibility for the Cassville R-IV School District’s preschool program. Kinder Academy and Kindergarten screenings will be March 27 and March 29. Screenings are open to children that are 5 years old by July 31 living in the Cassville school district. Activities at the Cassville Branch Library this week include: today (Wednesday), Chair Yoga/QiGong at 9 a.m., Crocxhet with Ashlyn at 1 p.m. and Yoga with Tara at 5 p.m.; Thursday, Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., sign-up required, and a movie matinee with a new release starring Tom Hanks at 1:30 p.m., and Toastmasters at 6 p.m.; Friday, Chair Yoga/QiGong at 9 a.m., Tween/Teen Painting Frantic Ostrich at 3:45 p.m., registration required; Saturday, Kids Spring Fling with crafts, games and the Easter Bunny from 10 a.m. to noon; Monday, Chair Yoga/QiGong at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, free Homeschool Enrichment at 10 a.m., sign-up required, and Game Night at 5:30 p.m., sign-up requested.

Library activities scheduled in Eagle Rock

On April 1, the Friends of the Library will host its annual Easter Event with Egg Hunt starting at 1 p.m. and special guest Mr. E. Bunny. On April, 5, there will be “Storytime in the Library” with a story and craft at 10 a.m. Registration is required. The Eagle Rock Branch Library is located at 27824 Hwy. 76 in Eagle Rock. General Municipal Election on April 4

The Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville will be open April 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for absentee voting for the General Election. Absentee voting in person continues through April 3 at the Clerk’s Office. No-excuse voting began March 21. A Photo ID must be presented to vote. Anyone who has moved or had had an address change needs to contact the Clerk’s Office or come in and update that information before Election Day. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day. OATS rides available in Barry County

OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.

Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. For more information, people may call 417-662-3612.
