Leach sets new Wildcat track record
The Cassville boys track and field team took third place as a team at the Ice Box Relays in Aurora on April 6, and a Wildcat senior set a new record in the 3200-meter run. Caleb Leach too first place in the event with a time of 10:04.69, a new school record. Full results include:

Wildcats have ‘Good Friday’ with pair of wins
The Cassville baseball team (5-6) picked up a pair of wins on Friday, plating 25 runs in the process. Cassville defeated Wheaton, 10-0, then played Sarcoxie, winning 15-4. The Wildcats play next today at home against East Newton.
Lady Tigers split games
The Exeter softball team moved to 5-2 last week with two games played and one wins. The Lady Tigers earned a 17-1 win over Verona in three innings on April 3. Kaylyn Weiser led Exeter in hits with 3 and RBI with 5. In the circle Madison Crumpler pitched two innings and struck out 2, and Dawnee Sorensen went one inning with 3 Ks. The next day, the Lady Tigers outhit East Newton 9-6, but fell on the scoreboard, 8-3. Weiser and Emma Sorensen had 2 hits each, and Shea Hilburn added 2 RBI. Zeanndrea Brown pitched four innings, striking out 4. Exeter hosts Wheaton on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Purdy on Friday at the same place and time.
Purdy softball streak snapped by Mt. Vernon
The Purdy softball team (15-5) saw its 9-game win streak come to a halt on Thursday after a 12-4 loss to Mt. Vernon. It was the team’s sixth game in as many days. The Lady Eagles won the Ash Grove Classic on April 1 with wins over Lockwood, 15-2, Southwest, 20-2, and Ash Grove, 9-1. Purdy went on to earn a 16-1 win over Sarcoxie and an 11-1 victory over Crane. The Lady Eagles face Lamar on the road Thursday at 5 p.m.
Trojans battle through early season
The Southwest baseball team (1-8) had a tough week on the dirt, falling on April 3 to East Newton, 15-5; on April 4 to Purdy, 13-3; on Thursday to Exeter, 6-3; and on Friday at Billings, 9-3. Against East Newton, Zac Corwin pitched 4.1 innings and struck out 9. Against Purdy, Tristan Morgan went 4.1 innings, striking out 3. Against Exeter, Braden Garcia and Brendyn Paulsen put in 2 hits each. Caleb Ayer went 3.1 innings on the mound, and Garcia provided two, both getting 2 Ks apiece. Charlie Pippin put in five innings against Billings, with one strikout. The Trojans host Jasper on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Lady Bulldogs produce win over Hurley
The Wheaton softball team picked up a 10-8 comeback win over Hurley on April 5, going down 7-0 after two innings but scoring 1, 2, 3 and 4 runs in the third through sixth to secure the win. Jenny Par led in hits with 2, and in RBI with 3. Jayci Park pitched 5.2 innings, striking out 10 batters. Wheaton travels to Exeter on Thursday for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
Reeds Spring track meet stopped for weather
Despite the Reeds Spring Track Meet being canceled for weather after only 8 of the 19 events, the Cassville boys track and field team brought home two firsts and a third. Full results include:
