Eagles score 57 runs in 3 games
The Purdy baseball team (15-3) was on fire at the plate last week, scoring 57 runs in three games and earning wins in each. Purdy defeated Crane 20-0 on April 11 behind a four-inning no-hitter with 9 strikeouts from Ezequiel Garcia. At the plate, JJ Felipe and Josh Brown had 4 RBI each, and Felipe led in hits with 3. In a 15-0 win over McAuley Catholic the following day, Josh Brown was the hit leader with 2, and Travis Hughes, Felipe and Brown each had 2 RBI. Hughes pitched four innings and struck out 5. Against Jasper on Friday, the Eagles turned in a 22-12 victory. Garcia tallied 5 hits in the game, and Hughes added 6 RBI. Brown went 2.2 innings on the mound with 6 Ks. Purdy hosted Blue Eye on Tuesday and is home again today (Wednesday) against Galena.
Lady Wildcats look to snap streak
The Cassville girls soccer team (3-9) hoped to snap a 7-game winless streak against Monett on Tuesday, and the Lady Wildcats face a winless McDonald County team next week. Cassville dropped three contests last week, falling to Parkview, 4-0; McAuley Catholic, 3-2; and Pittsburg (Kan.), 7-1. Against McAuley, Emma Berndt scored an unassisted goal and assisted Dakotah Anderson on the second, the first goal of the season for the junior. Cassville hosted Monett on Tuesday in the FutBrawl, and the lady Wildcats travel to face an 0-8 McDonald County squad on Tuesday.
Lady Trojans drop trio of contests
The Southwest softball team (4-10) fell in three consecutive contests last week, downed by Crane, 2-1; Clever, 9-1; and Jasper, 12-0. Against Crane, Kaleigh Tull pitched all seven innings, striking out a dozen batters. Southwest gave up 2 runs in the sixth and tallied 1 in the seventh but could not complete the comeback. Against Clever, Riley Flippo logged 2 hits, and Tull went six innings with 1 K. Against Jasper, Tull again went six innings, striking out 8 batters. Southwest hosted Verona on Tuesday and will host Sparta on Thursday.
Baseball Trojans split games
The Southwest baseball team (2-9) picked up a win in two tries last week, falling to Galena, 12-9, but besting Jasper, 9-4. Against Galena, Zac Corwin had 2 hits and 3 RBI. He also went 3.1 innings on the mound with 6 strikeouts. Tristan Morgan threw 3.2 innings with 4 Ks. In the win over Jasper, Brendyn Paulsen led with 3 hits, and Morgan delivered 4 RBI. Charlie Pippin pitched four innings with 3 strikeouts, and Paulsen pitched the other two with 2 Ks. Southwest traveled to Wheaton on Monday and hits the road again to Spokane on Thursday.
