11th Street to close

Project preparing to cross over Main

With open trench construction making progress along 11th Street last week, construction this week will move closer to and eventually across Main Street, with multiple street closures expected.

Work will continue in the 300 and 400 Blocks of 11th Street, between East and Harold streets.

“We have also been advised to expect the subcontractor who will install the encasement pipe under Main (Business 37) to arrive and begin work on or about Wednesday, May 10,” said David Brock, Cassville public works director.

“These adjacent work zones will necessitate the closure of 11th Street from Townsend to Main, Main to East and East to Harold. North/south traffic on Townsend, Main and East Street will not be impeded. Local traffic will not be able access 11th Street from Main (use Townsend or East Street).”

The city will send an update if any substantial variation in this forecast develops, Brock said.

“The contractor will try to keep access open for local traffic, but there will likely be times when equipment or materials will block individual driveways,” he said. “If residents need to come or go, they can simply inform someone on the construction crew, a city staff member or the project inspector and they will get you in or out as soon as possible. This portion of the project may be very disruptive in the immediate area of the excavations; if anyone has questions or concerns issues, please let us know.”

Work on the trenchless rehabilitation is also expected to continue with cleaning and CCTV Inspections of the sewer pipe that will be relined. This work should cause no more than minor disruptions to drivers with short isolated lane closures.

“Please note: the pressurized water jets used to clean the lines can push sewer gases into nearby structures, particularly older structures that are not vented well,” Brock said. “Our apologies for this temporary inconvenience when and where it occurs.”
