10 events strong at state

The Cassville boys and girls track and field teams qualified for 10 events at the Class 3 Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, with 11 total athletes participating.

Hopes remain high for the distance relay teams, as the boys took first place and the girls took second in the Class 3, Sectional 3 on Saturday in West Plains.

Along with the 4×800 relay team of Jacob Martinez, Caleb Leach, Charles Elliot and Forsyth Hayse, Ashton Wheeler qualified in the long jump Forsyth Hayse qualified in the 3200-meter run and Peter Littlefield, anchors a 4×400 relay team with Martinez, Leach and Elliot. Leach also qualified in the 800-meter run, as did Elliot in the 300-meter hurdles.

For the Lady Wildcats, the 4×800 team of Marianne McCrackin, Tori Mitchell, Jadyn Willams and Jolie Evans will compete at state, and Aaliyah Franklin qualified in discus. Evans also qualified in the 800and 3200-meter runs.

The 98th MSHSAA Boys Track and Field Championships and the 50th MSHSAA Girls Track and Field Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City.

Field events Friday begin at 9:30 a.m., with the National Anthem and running events starting at 10:20 and 10:30 a.m.

Saturday field events begin at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies at 9:50 a.m. and running events at 10:30 a.m.
