Taxes show marginal gains

Barry County’s cities and county government entities generating sales tax saw marginal gains overall in April, though a smaller number made up for the losses shown by most recipients. The seven Barry County cities collecting sales tax received $751,410.75, a 2 percent increase over a year ago.

50 YEARS AGO: Members of Girl Scout Cadette Troop 154 of Cassville put the triple-tap on a Cassville businessman Saturday for the benefit of the American Legion Auxiliary veteran’s poppy sale. Receiving his recognition for the contributions is Russell Moore. The three young ladies among troop members assisting Saturday, from the left are: Cheryl Weigel, Holly Edmondson and Brenda Snyder. Efforts last Saturday yielded $60 for the veteran program, according to Mrs. Sue Mitchell, project chairman.

Construction picks up near Main Street

Intermittent rains late this last week diminished the city’s progress on its wastewater system upgrades, as the directional bore subcontractor did not start as expected, postponing until Monday. For the week of May 15, Public Works Director David Brock said residents expect open trench excavation to continue in the 300 Block of 11th Street (between East Street and Mill).
