Seven Barry County jail inmates staged an escape on Thursday night, with six of the individuals captured by 7:15 a.m. Friday morning.
Danny Boyd, Barry County sheriff, said the inmates, who were separated from the general population due to being charged with sex crimes or being on the sex offender registry, staged an attack of two correctional officers at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, exiting the jail four minutes later.
“They lured the correctional officers in to do a blood pressure check then jumped them and choked them out,” Boyd said. “One may have a concussion, and they have some bruises and cuts. They are pretty distraught, and it was a dramatic incident.”
Three escapees, Andrew Madewell, 19, of Monett; Harley Wilkins, 29, of Purdy; and Jonathan Saucedo, 31, of Golden. were located after 15-20 minutes in the area of 10th and Harold Streets. Two more, Derson Pelep, 37, of Monett, and Rolondo Saldivar, 42, of Monett, were apprehended at about 6:30 a.m. near the Cassville Aquatic Center, and a sixth, Axel Agans, 22, of Purdy, turned himself in at about 7:15 a.m.
Boyd said the final escapee, Mario Che-Tiul, 34, of Monett, remains on the loose.
“We are working with the U.S. Marshal Service because they are familiar with him,” Boyd said. “They are trying to track him down and believe he is on the run.”
Che-Tiul is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911.
Boyd said all seven will be charged with assault and fleeing.
Che-Tiul was charged in 2022 with first-degree chid molestation and incest. Agans was on supervised probation for a 2019 case where he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree child molestation.
Saldivar was charged on May 17 with delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and Pelep was charged Feb. 10 with two counts of second-degree statutory rape, two counts of incest and one count of second-degree statutory sodomy.
Wilkins was charged in February with possession of a controlled substance, 21 counts of stealing a firearm, 21 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, 21 counts of unlawful use of a weapon of possessing a weapon and a controlled substance, second-degree burglary, stealing and failure to register as a sex offender.
