2 charged in Purdy school burglary

Two individuals have been charged in connection to an alleged burglary at the Purdy School district in April, during which cash, a ring and other items were stolen.

According to a Purdy Police Department press release, on April 22 at 1:12 a.m., two suspects broke into the Purdy school building, located at 201 Gabby Gibbons Drive.

The pair were able to gain access into one of the main offices through the ceiling, where they located a set of keys, allowing them to unlock several doors within the school building.

The two remained inside of the school building for approximately four hours, during which time, a large amount of cash, a championship ring, two ballcaps and a few other items were stolen.

The suspects were also able to gain access to the keys to one of the school vehicles, which they allegedly stole from the school parking lot. They later returned to the school in the stolen vehicle and abandoned it in the parking lot, leaving the scene on foot.

The two suspects were identified as a 19-year-old male and a 16-year-old juvenile, both from Purdy.

For the 19-year-old, an affidavit of probable cause has been submitted to Barry County Prosecuting Attorney Amy Boxx seeking felony charges of second-degree burglary, stealing of $750 or more and stealing a motor vehicle.

The juvenile has been referred to the Juvenile Court on the same charges.

Some of the stolen property was recovered and has been returned to the school.

The Purdy Police Department, the Barry County Sheriff’s Department and the Barry County Juvenile Office conducted the investigation.
