5th annual spelling bee billed as a success
The Southwest school held its 5th annual spelling bee March 8, 2023.
Students in grades 1-6 competed against their classmates to see who would qualify to compete against the students in the other two classrooms in the grade level spelling bee.
In January, students are given age appropriate words to practice. Then, in February the teacher conducts a spelling bee in the classroom. Winners of this bee move on to the grade level spelling bee.
This year’s spelling bee had siblings winning first place in their age groups. The top three of each grade level have been recognized.
“The students look forward to this event every year,” said Heather Ayer, spelling bee coordinator. “They are so excited to get on the stage to see who is the best grade level speller. This spelling bee would not be possible without the help of Mr. Steve Voyak and the National Honor Society members.
“Mr. Voyak works hard to help the high school students prepare for the event to ensure it runs smoothly. I am very grateful for him and all the work the NHS members put into this spelling bee.”
