Back to School Fair signups this month
Signups for the 22nd Annual OACAC Back to School Fair will be held from May 30 to June 30 by appointment only at OACAC Barry County Neighborhood Center, located at 10826 Farm Road 2172 in Cassville. Students Pre-K through 12th grade are eligible for the Fair. Social Security cards for all household members, photo ID, and proof of income for the previous month are required. Breakfast, lunch provided at Purdy summer school
The Purdy school district is hosting summer school from May 30 to June 23 and free breakfast and lunch will be provided for those who are 18-years or younger. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon.
Local woman celebrates 100 years
Edwina Martin, her friends and family call her Tooley, will celebrate her 100th birthday in June. Her family will be with her to celebrate on June 24. People may drop in to say hello and wish her a Happy Birthday any time between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Purdy Community Picnic and Fireworks show scheduled
The Purdy Community Picnic and Fireworks Show will be held July 3 at the Gathering Place in Purdy, located at 100 Old Business 37 and Highway C, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a picnic meal, live musical entertainment and a fireworks show at dark. Shell Knob nominated for Small Town Showcase
Shell Knob has been nominated in the 2024 Small Town Showcase, where five communities will be featured after voting on the 36 total towns nominated. Voting will close on July 15, and the five communities with the most votes will be featured in the 2024 Small Town Showcase. Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open
The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m. The Market offers fresh produce, eggs, jellies, relishes, baked goods, cut flowers, handmade crafts and more. Softball game benefitting Wheaton boy
A benefit softball game will be held at the Wheaton ballfields on June 24 at noon. Funds raised will benefit Garrett Roller, 12, of Wheaton, who broke both bones in his leg in a UTV accident in October. Since having his cast off in November, Roller has experienced many complications, resulting in four major surgeries on his leg. He is currently receiving care at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City to treat a bone infection, correct the deformity and hopefully allow the bone to fuse together. Roller is an outdoor-lover, enjoying fishing, gardening and anything to do with farm animals. The cost to enter a team is $250, and there is a $10 cost per entry in the home run derby. The registration deadline is June 19, and people may register by calling the city of Wheaton at 417-652-3314. There will be plated of barbecue chicken and sides for $5 each. OATS rides available in Barry County
OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.
