After taking a couple weeks off from reporting, I found myself last week at the Cassville Aquatic Center for the last day of the Safety Around Water program. This is the fifth year of the partnership between the school and the Cassville Area YMCA, and we can’t think of a better summer school offering. Many local youth have essentially learned to swim during this free two-week program, plus they learn about dangers of water and pools and how to protect themselves from such. I tried to help out these lifeguards with a few kiddos still scrambling to touch ground, but my fins are a touch too slippery to be of any assistance. I’ll just have to keep taking my turn on the slides instead!
