Iowa woman injured in crash, charged with DWI

An Iowa woman serious seriously injured and was arrested following a wreck at 2:45 p.m. Thursday on Highway 39, five miles north of Shell Knob.

According to a Missouri State Highway patrol report, Kristen Hughes, 53, of Red Oak, Iowa, was driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Hughes suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

She was wearing a safety device, and the vehicle was totaled.

According to a Patrol arrest report, Hughes was arrested at 4 p.m. for felony driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving involving a crash. She was released for medical care.
