50 YEARS AGO: This enlargement of an advertising card used about 70 years ago wasn’t an unusual means back in the first days of the present Barry County Courthouse. A number of Cassville businesses used this method of expressing their pride in the new county office building.

Verona woman injured in Hwy. 39 wreck
ktroutman@cassville-democrat.com A Verona woman was injured and the driver of another vehicle arrested following a wreck at 3:35 p.m. on Highway 39, one mile north of Shell Knob.

Library hosts laser tag
The Cassville Branch Library hosted Bill’s Xtreme Video Game Kart on July 28, with the company also setting up blinds in the adjacent field for a game of laser tag. Event attendees played video games in the Kart for 90 minutes, then at dusk when it cooled, played 90 minutes of laser tag. The event is part of the Library’s summer reading challenge, “All Together Now.”

Pythagoras Lodge No. 383 will celebrate its sesquicentennial on Saturday, a milestone for the organization that restarted in Cassville after the Civil War.
Sales tax revenues sag in July
For the second month in a row, only the second time this year, sales tax receipts for Barry County in July slipped below totals received by its cities and county governments. Totals nonetheless held very close to a year ago as the bloom of the pandemic surge fades with normal shopping habits and travel resuming.
