Wheeler hits 500 wins

Purdy volleyball coach Barry Wheeler reached his 500th win last week with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-19) victory over Exeter on Saturday in the Thomas Jefferson Invitational. The Lady Eagles went 2-2 at the tournament and have an overall record of 3-8-2 this season. Purdy hosts McAuley Catholic on Thursday and Wheaton on Friday.

Cassville XC places in meets

The Cassville cross country team has been busy in recent week, placing as a team in meets in Monett, Seneca and Hollister. The varsity boys and girls teams finished 3rd in the small school division in Monett, and the middle school girls finished 4th and the middle school boys finished 2nd out of 11 teams. In Seneca, the varsity girls placed 3rd, varsity boys placed 4th and both middle school teams placed 3rd. Finally, in Hollister on Thursday, the varsity boys finished 3rd, varsity girls finished 7th and  middle school girls finished 3rd.

Cassville soccer nets Big 8 win

The Cassville boys soccer team (5-2-1) picked up its first Big 8 Conference win of the season on Thursday, a 1-0 victory over Marshfield courtesy of an Olympico from senior Jackson Ray. An Olympico is a goal directly from a corner kick, curving the ball along the goal line into the net. The win came two days after a 7-1 road victory over Fair Grove, with first-ever varsity goals coming from senior Van Thu and freshman Zeb Blankenship. The Saturday prior, the Wildcats wrapped up the New Covenant Academy Tournament at 1-1-1, drawing with Marshfield, 0-0, defeating Fair Grove, 3-0, and falling to New Covenant, 3-1. The Wildcats faced Crocker on the road Monday and will host Carl Junction on Thursday.

Lady Wildcats 2-3 in last 5

The Cassville softball team (4-10), picked up a pair of wins and three losses in five games played over two days Friday and Saturday. Cassville fell to Neosho, 7-1, then defeated Lebanon, 7-2, on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Wildcats lost to Seneca, 7-3, beat West Plains, 3-2, and fell to Glendale, 13-1. Cassville hosted Carthage on Monday and traveled to Hartville on Tuesday. The next contest is against Neosho on the road on Monday.

Cassville volleyball off to winning start

The Cassville volleyball team (6-4-2) is looking to overcome a two-game skid after starting the season with 6 wins in 10 matches. The Lady Wildcats defeated Berryville (Ark.) on Sept. 11, 3-1 (22 – 25, 25 – 20, 25 – 21, 25 – 18), then suffered 3-0 losses to Carthage (16 – 25, 16 – 25, 19 – 25) and Mt. Vernon (19 – 25, 16 – 25, 21 – 25). Cassville faced Diamond on the road Monday and hosted Reeds Spring on Tuesday in conference action. The next match is at home on Thursday against another Big 8 foe, Nevada.
