The Cassville girls golf team got a taste of what districts may be like this year, taking second place on Thursday at the Cassville Invitational.
Jay Rogers, Cassville golf coach, said the team shot its best score of the season, with each individual improving or equaling their best score of the year.
“Avery finished third and was off a little but still had a good showing,” he said. “As a team, there were 14 schools, and we finished in second, 2 strokes behind winner Mt. Vernon.”
The team score of 385 was 18 strokes less than it’s previous best this season of 403.
“The girls are familiar with the course, and I hope this gives them confidence going into districts knowing we can put up good numbers,” Rogers said.
The Class 2, District 3 Tournament is set for Oct. 5 at the Cassville Golf Club. A total of 15 schools are in the district, including Mt. Vernon.
“I hope [the Cassville Invitational scores] help us be comfortable and confident when we go into districts,” Rogers said.
Rogers said some of the best plays of the day came from the two girls finishing ahead of Avery, both of whom shot personal records.
“Gracie Harmon had her best score of the year, and Adelee Hendricks had the best score of her high school career,” Rogers said. “Those were the highlights for us.”
Cassville played on Tuesday at Mt. Vernon, and the Lady Wildcats play at Windmill Ridge Golf Course in Monett on Thursday. The final play before districts will be the Big 8 Championships, scheduled for Oct. 2 in Carthage.
