Spotlight shines on The Show’s 30th year

A Cassville fall is not complete without seeing local talent perform in The Show, an event celebrating it’s 30th year this weekend, with all proceeds benefitting the Cassville High School marching band.

Greg Beck, with Hometown Sound and the Red Hots, the band that plays the cover songs performers sing in The Show, said participants are excited to celebrate the milestone.

“The most exciting thing is it’s been 30 years — and we’re still doing it,” he said.

This year’s event will be similar to recent years, but with a few extra tricks coming out of the bag.

“We have a some people coming back who haven’t done it in a while,” he said. “One hasn’t been in 8-9 years, another hadn’t in 10-15 years, and another hasn’t for even longer than that,” he said. “We’ll do some retro songs for those three that everyone loved, and we have a surprise ending to The Show, something we’ve never done before.”

The theme for The Show is, “The Life We Live,” which Beck said left performers plenty of opportunities for song choice.

“We’ll have some country, some up-tempo pop and plenty of artists people know,” he said. “We also have a performer from Branson who is an understudy at a theatre there, so we are excited to work with someone from that area.” Beck said 100 percent of the proceeds from The Show this year will benefit the high school band, which has voiced a desire to earmark the funds to assist in purchasing new uniforms when the district goes to buy them.

“We appreciate the show of support for the band and helping supplement their needs,” said Merlyn Johnson, Cassville superintendent.

Beck pushed to donate the revenue from The Show after attending a Band Boosters meeting and hearing discussions about getting new uniforms.

“When I walked out of that meeting, I looked at my wife Brenda and said e should talk to the Chamber and make something happen,” Beck said. “She said, ‘Like what?’ and I said, ‘Like giving them all the money.’” No one disagreed, and the Chamber Board was 100 percent for it. David Samuel, with AireServ, will also add a $2 donation for every ticket sold on Thursday.”

The district is budgeting about $25,000 to $30,000 to marching band uniforms in coming years.

Show times are Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The Cassville High School jazz band will also perform all three days for 30 minutes prior to start time.

Tickets for The Show are $10 each, and tables are $150 each. There are seven tables for each performance, with two added for Saturday that are sold out. Tables are still available for Thursday and Sunday.
