Wildcats going polar

There are few back-to-back weeks in high school football with opponents as opposite as Cassville’s Week 7 and Week 8 foes. The Wildcats got the job done at Homecoming on Friday, earning a 42-0 win over a winless Springfield Catholic team with only one touchdown on the year.

Off to state!

The Cassville High School girls golf team has qualified for the Class 2 2023 Girls Golf State on Monday and Tuesday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin. The Lady Wildcats took second place in the Class 2, District 3 Tournament in Cassville on Monday with a team score of 406, 11 strokes behind winner Mt. Vernon. Only the top two team scores advance from districts to state. Senior Avery Chappell, pictured sinking a putt on hole No. 9, took second in the tournament with an 83. Madison Robertshaw, Gracie Harmon and Adelee Hendrix took 18th, 20th and 21st with scores of 106, 107 and 110, respectively, and Chaney Cox finished in 32nd with a score of 123. Through the Years, Oct. 11

50 YEARS AGO: It was easy to tell the defensive backs from the linemen Friday night at Lamar. The backs had partly clean jerseys. This five-some was typical during one of their breaks late in the Big 10 contest played on a rain soaked field. From the left are: Mike Marshall, Hal Smith, Max Henbest, Rick Bratin and Tom Moss. Brattin for the second week got Wildcat of the week defensive honors in the game.
