Cassville runners compete in XC state
Cassville had five runners compete in the MSHSAA Class 3 State XC Championships 2023 at Gans Creek Cross Country in Columbia on Saturday. For the boys, senior Ethan Bohmke, who was competing at state for the fourth time and believed to be the first Cassville boy to do so, finished 117th with a time of 17:58, freshman Trever Garnett finished 123rd with a time of 18:05, and freshman Michael Tolbert finished 133rd with a time of 18:16. Two Lady Wildcats also ran in the event. Junior Jadyn Williams finished 39th with a time of 20:19 and senior Tori Mitchell finished 134th with a time of 22:47. The top 30 earn medals at state.
Pair of Trojans medal in Class 2 XC
Two Southwest High School cross country athletes etched their names into the history books on Friday. At the MSHSAA Class 2 State XC Championships at Gans Creek Cross Country in Columbia, senior Robert Humphries 11th place in with a time of 17:08.10, and freshman Bryar Llewellyn took 30th place with a time of 17:28.40, earning a medal by less than 2 seconds. The top 30 earn medals at state. Also running for Southwest, freshman Skylar Reines took 131st in 19:36.60, senior Kameron Kelley was 135th in 19:40.00, sophomore Tobias Smith earned 143rd in 20:08.70, sophomore Victor Tellez was 151st in 20:54.50, and junior Braydan Rose was 162nd in 22:12.30. As a team, the Trojans finished in 13th place. Purdy had two runners competing, both freshmen. Jayden Griffis and Logan Manwarren finished 1.2 seconds apart in 104th and 105th, respectively, with times of 18:57.00 and 18:58.20. In the girls’ race, Purdy’s Courtney Patterson finished in 86th place in 23:09.50, andSouthwest sophomore Jacee Durossette was 129th in 24:36.00. In the Class 1 girls’ race, Exeter junior Kaylyn Weiser finished in 97th place in 24:31.70.
