Two Cassville residents have been arrested for an alleged burglary in Eagle Rock where the victims of the crime held the perpetrators for Barry County deputies to arrive.
Justin Taylor, 50, and Jacki Grubb, 38, both of Cassville, have each been charged with second-degree burglary for the alleged incident at a home on Highway E in Eagle Rock.
According to probable cause statements filed by Deputy Leslie Wilson, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were notified of a residential burglary alarm in the 21000 area of Highway E in Eagle Rock on Nov. 27 at about 5:09 a.m.
Wilson reported arriving on the scene at about 5:33 a.m. and making contact with two victims who were holding two suspects until deputies arrived. The victims were able to see the lights through the window using security cameras and reported a trespasser on his property.
According to the victims, when they arrived at the residence, they could see lights and movement inside, and when they came around the side of the home, they allegedly found Grubb inside the garage hiding behind a door.
“They told her to come outside,” Wilson said. “While victim 1 and victim 2 were talking with [Grubb], [Taylor] came out from an unknown location.
After being advised of her Miranda rights, Grubb allegedly said she was never inside the house, then said she went inside because it was cold, then said she did not go in the house, Wilson said.
Taylor allegedly said he was pilfering through a dump area and did not know where Grubb, his girlfriend, had gone. Later, Taylor allegedly admitted he and Grubb arrived at the home in his car, parked it near the road and walked up the power line to the area of the dump.
Wilson’s statement said a search of Grubb revealed Percocet pills, for which she did not have a prescription.
“I also located a plastic face mask, some wire cutters and some copper wire,” Wilson said. “Later, searching the vehicle, a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was located in the console. [Grubb] admitted it was hers.”
An investigation of the scene revealed damage to the garage door, and the power meter had been pulled from the meter box, Wilson said. The box and meter appeared to be damaged.
Wilson also said in the statement that there are reasonable grounds to believe Taylor will not appear upon a summons, as he has a prior conviction for providing false information to law enforcement.
Grubb, Wilson said, poses a danger to a crime victim, community or any other person, as she has five criminal convictions, including stealing in Monett in January 2003, fraud in Cassville in February 2004, theft in Cassville in September 2004, and second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance in Cassville in December 2021.
Taylor is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $40,000. He has a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
