Larry C. “Maynard” Reed, 81, of Exeter, Mo. passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, at his home.

He was born May 7, 1942, in Barry County, Mo., the son of Lloyd and Evelyn (Patton) Reed, who preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death was his wife, Beverly Mattingly; one grandson, Mason Lowe; two brothers, Gary (Cotton) Reed and Bob Reed and one nephew, Douglas (Booger) Reed.

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Whisenhunt and her husband Jerry of Exeter, Mo.; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max Reed and his wife Charlie of Cassville, Mo. and Steven Reed and his wife Samantha of Cassville, Mo.; two sisters, Joyce Moore and her husband Roy of Aurora, Mo. and Janice Cooper and her Husband Les of Cassville, Mo.

He attended school in Cassville, Mo., graduating from Cassville High School in 1960. At the age of 12 he started helping his father process meat at Reed’s Butchering and Custom Processing. In 1970 he opened Reed’s Processing Plant that closed in 1993 when he started working at Ramey’s in the meat department. He was a member of Mercy and Grace Fellowship.

Graveside services were held Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Cassville, Mo., under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Wyatt Clevenger conducted the services.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Maynard.
