An Exeter woman died on Dec. 15 in a wreck at 6 p.m. on Farm Road 1010, six miles west of Exeter.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Dorothy Lewis, 67, of Exeter, was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla northbound when her vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck trees, became airborne, then struck the ground and overturned.

Lewis was confirmed dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen. She was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Lewis was wearing a safety device, and the vehicle was totaled.

This is the 140th fatal crash for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.

The Barry County Sheriff’s Office had posted on social media Tuesday night that Lewis was missing, and further investigation determined she had died in the crash four days prior.
