CARDS releases trash pickup info

Cassville’s new trash service began on Tuesday, and the company, CARDS, has released its pick-up schedule, as well as rules and regulations.

According to a map release by the Springdale, Ark., company, residential pickup will occur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Monday will be the southern end of town, Wednesday is the north-central and northwestern part of Cassville, and Thursday is central and northeastern sections of the city. A full map is available for viewing at http://tinyurl.com/ bdhm3v5p.

Carts can hold 6-7 kitchen- size trash bags, and they should be put out for collection by 6 a.m. on collection day, or the night before as early as 6 p.m. Carts should be 3 feet apart from other carts, mailboxes, vehicles, utility meters, poles, fences, etc. Trash must be bagged with the cart lid closed to prevent spillage. Items placed outside of containers will not be collected.

For recycling, items should be loose in the container, and cardboard must be broken don and placed loosely. Carts should not be overfilled.

All carts should be placed with the lid opening facing the street and should not be placed back-to-back. Trash carts have orange lids and recycling carts have grey lids. The trash and recycling service is $16.85 per month, and extra carts are $7 per month.

Recycling is included in the flat monthly rate, but those who choose to participate should contact the city to be added to the recycling list. All recycling will be picked up on Friday, two times per month.

Items to be recycled must be empty, clean and dry, and placed loosely, not in plastic bags. Recyclable items include: clean aluminum cans, foil and pans, steel (tin) food cans, pots, pans, scrap metal, newspaper, magazines, catalogs, thin cardboard boxes, chipboard, boxboard (like cereal and shoeboxes), milk and juice cartons (must be rinsed clean), clean cardboard boxes (like Amazon boxes) empty and free from plastic, old documents, junk mail, mixed office paper, school papers, non-metallic paper gift wrap (all paper must be larger than a credit card, paper grocery bags, phone books, shredded paper (bagged or loose), plastic bottles, plastic jugs, plastic containers (plastic must be stamped 1, 2 or 5 and lids can be loosely attached), and product bottles (like shampoo or detergent, must be rinsed clean).

Items that may not be recycled include: glass such as light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and mirrors; metal items like aerosol cans and wire hangers; facial tissue, toilet paper, paper towels or sticky notes; CDs/DVDs, plastic wrap, plastic containers used for motor oil, antifreeze or other hazardous materials, plastic toys, metallic and cellophane gift wrap, trash bags or Styrofoam; adult or baby diapers, carpet or rugs, tile, fabric, clothing, shoes or yard waste.

If a trash or recycling bin was put out before 6 a.m. and not picked up by the end of the day, people may email CARDS at cityofcassville@cardsrecycling.com.

Holiday collection will be the day after the normal collection day for weeks with holidays on a weekday. Days prior to the holiday are not affected, and there are no delays for weekend holidays. Holidays affected this year include: Memorial Day on Monday, May 27; Independence Day on Thursday, July 4; Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2; Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 28; and Christmas Day on Wednesday, Dec. 25.

CARDS also offers temporary roll-off dumpster containers for larger projects, such as home remodels or clean-outs. Several sizes are offered to meet customer needs. To reserve a rolloff dumpster, people may visit cardsrecycling.com/ roll-off-containers, or request via email at cityofcassville@cardsrecycling.com.

CARDS will also offer two city-wide clean-up opportunities annually, one in spring and one in fall, as the city has held previously.
