Chili Supper to benefit Gipson family
A $5 chili and soup Benefit Super will be held on Jan. 20 from 5-8 p.m. at the Eagle Rock Community Center, located at 27824 Hwy. 86 in Eagle Rock, with proceeds to support the Gipson family manage expenses due to Adenocarcinoma cancer treatments. Melanie Gipson is a barber at Arlene’s Barber Shop and the family has given to the community via the Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire District and Barry County E9-1-1. The event will include prize raffles and a 50/50 raffle, and donations are welcome. Senior Center hosting tax counseling program
SeniorAge and the Cassville Senior Center will host its tax counseling program this year starting in February. Volunteer tax preparers will assist seniors with their taxes and property tax credit. The program is by appointment only, and to make one, people may call the Cassville Senior Center at 417-847-4510 or sign up in person at the facility, located at 1111 Fair St.
Local student fundraising for research opportunity
Crowder Cassville student Anahi Gomez is seeking assistance to fund her participation in a pediatric research study in Washington, D.C. A published nursing student one year away from her degree, Gomez has been offered a space in the Washington D.C. Children’s National Hospital Project and Atlantis Service-Research Project. Activities at the Cassville Branch Library this week include: Thursday, Tot-Time at 9 a.m. (registration required), Story Time at 10 a.m. (registration required) and Adult Painting at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. (registration required, $5 fee); Saturday, LEGO Club from 10 a.m. to noon; Monday, Library closed for MLK Day; Tuesday, Homeschool Program at 10 a.m. (registration required) and Adult Felt Banner Craft at 5:30 p.m. (registration required, $5).
County sets date for budget hearing
The Barry County Commission will host its annual budget hearing at 9 a.m. on Jan. 18 at the Barry County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week
The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. OATS rides available in Barry County
OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.
Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. For more information, people may call 479-903-3640.
