A person died on Sunday in a house fire on Highway DD near Farm Road 2295, west of Seligman.
According to the Seligman Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at 10:51 a.m. on Sunday to a two-story structure fire with one person possibly still inside.
“Upon arrival we found the house about 40 percent involved,” a Department Facebook post said. “Crews made a very hard and aggressive attack. During this process, both our fire engines pumps and hand lines started freezing, got everything going again and we ran out of water in one engine.”
Both the Department’s 2,500 gallon tankers and a Washburn tanker were en route to fill back up, but the turn around time was delayed do to frozen hydrants, forcing firefighters to refill the tankers at the Frisco Street station in Seligman.
“At this time, 12:14 p.m., the Pea Ridge Fire Department (based in Pea Ridge, Ark.) and NEBCO Fire Department (based in Garfield, Ark.) were requested for man power and tankers,” the post said. “Once they arrived, they immediately jumped in and made an awesome hand!”
The assistance, along with auto-aid from the Washburn Fire Department, supplied enough water and allowed Seligman crews to take a short break and warm up for a few minutes.
Following the blaze, an adult male was found deceased.
All units cleared at 5:18 p.m. “We would like to give a huge thanks to Barry County E9-1-1, Mercy EMS, Washburn Fire, NEBCO fire, Pea Ridge fire, Missouri State Fire Marshall and the Barry County Sheriff’s Office,” the post said.
“Also, a big thank you to Super Stop for giving us a big pot of coffee to try and warm up with.”
