Voter registration open through March 6

The last day to register to vote is March 6 for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the April 2 General Municipal Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office; the Monett Chamber of Commerce; or the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. Anyone who has moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the county clerk’s office. Photo ID is required to vote in the April General Municipal Election. Absentee began Feb. 20 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville and is ongoing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Twoweek in-person, no excuse absentee voting begins March 19. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett areas can go to the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. They will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov. Property assessments mailed

Sherry L. Smith, Barry County assessor, has announced that the 2024 Personal Property and Business Assessment lists were mailed out on Jan. 5. If anyone received an assessment list, but has not yet either filed online using the “Online Filing Pin Number” displayed on the list, or filled it out and returned it by mail or in person, please do so immediately to avoid a late assessment penalty. Those who owned personal property or business equipment on Jan. 1 and did not receive an assessment list, or who are a new resident to Barry County should call the assessor’s personal property office immediately at 417-847-2613 to request assistance in being properly assessed. People can assess online, directly over the telephone with one of the office staff, or feel free to drop by the personal property office to assess in person. All personal and business equipment assessment lists must be postmarked by March 1 to avoid a late assessment penalty.

Senior Center hosting tax counseling program

SeniorAge and the Cassville Senior Center will host its tax counseling program this year starting in February. Volunteer tax preparers will assist seniors with their taxes and property tax credit. The program is by appointment only, and to make one, people may call the Cassville Senior Center at 417-847-4510 or sign up in person at the facility, located at 1111 Fair St.

Cassville Branch Library activities scheduled

Activities at the Cassville Branch Library this week include: Thursday, Tot-Time at 9 a.m. (registration required), Story Time at 10 a.m. (registration required) and Native Plans Presentation by James River Basin at 6 p.m.; Saturday, Teen Video Games from 10 a.m. to noon (registration required, ages 11-18); Monday, Library closed for MLK Day; Tuesday, Homeschool Program at 10 a.m. (registration required) and Recipe Club at 5:30 p.m. (see library for more info); Jan. 25, Kiss the Ground Documentary presented with DNR at 6 p.m.; Jan. 26, Family Bingo Night from 6-8 p.m.

Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week

The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. The market offers local fresh cut flowers, produce, eggs, baked goods, hand made crafts and more. For more information, people may call 417-846-3539.

OATS rides available in Barry County

OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.

Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. For more information, people may call 479-903-3640.
