Harold Dean Summerlin, 94, of Golden, Mo. passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at The Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, Mo.
He was born August 22, 1929, in Gore, Okla., the son of George W. Summerlin Jr. and Rubie E. (Deen) Summerlin, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death was his wife, Flo McGuirk; one stepson, Kevin Parker; one stepdaughter, Susan Dougless, and one brother, Gerald Summerlin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. White; two sons, David Summerlin and his wife Gail of Joplin, Mo. and Kevin Summerlin and his wife Chassie of Wyandotte, Okla.; three daughters, Christine Hays and her husband Kevin of Conway, Ark., Brenda Summerlin of Conway, Ark. and Diana Tilford and her husband G.W. of Mabelvale, Ark.; four stepsons, David Parker and his wife April of Jasper, Mo., Wayne Poe of Olathe, Kan., Gary Poe and his wife Brenda of Eagle Rock, Mo. and Dan Poe and his wife Katie of Roseburg, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Sheri Pierce and her husband Ralph of Oronogo, Mo., Kelly Woodard of Joplin, Mo. and Marcia Dade and her husband Roger of Harwood, Mo.; two brothers, Roy Summerlin and his wife Reba of Jacksonville, Ark. and Don Summerlin and his wife Judy of Fort Gibson, Okla.; two sisters, Sheila Rattliff of Tahlequah, Okla. and Frela Summerlin of Fort Gibson, Okla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He grew up and attended school in Gore, Okla. and later received his GED. He spent most of his life working for the United States Military. He served in the United States Airforce during World War II, The Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1969 after serving for 21 years. Harold then went to work for the United States Postal Service in Joplin, Mo. from where he retired in 1989.
He was a member of the Golden Baptist Church in Golden, Mo Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Brother Bill Dudley will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time Thursday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
