A Cassville man is charged with felony burglary after allegedly breaking into a home in Cassville.
Dustin Thompson, 42, of Cassville, is charged with felony second-degree burglary and misdemeanor stealing.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Cassville Police Officer Devin McCormack, on Jan. 19, police were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a residence in the city limits.
Upon arrival, McCormack made contact with the victim, who claimed her neighbor witnessed Thompson enter her residence through the front door.
While conducting a search of the home, Thompson was located by the victim and another witness as he was walking through the front yard. He was detained while McCormack spoke to the neighbor, who identified Thompson as the person who allegedly entered the residence.
While McCormack was speaking to the witness, the victim identified a tool box belonging to her located in the back of Thompson’s cart, which was parked in the roadway.
The victim said the toolbox, valued at $100, belonged to her late husband and was being kept inside the residence.
Thompson has failed to appear at multiple court hearings from 20202022, and he has two prior felony theft convictions, one from Cassville in October 2021 and another from Pea Ridge, Ark., in September 2021.
The probable cause statement for Thompson was filed on Feb. 5, and a warrant was issued. He was booked into the Barry County jail on Feb. 6, where he remains held on a $7,500, cash-only bond. He has a bond hearing set for Thursday at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
