Barry County Master Gardeners are hosting their annual spring garden workshop on March 23 at First Baptist Church Family Life Center in downtown Cassville at 602 West St.
Doors will open at 9 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:20 a.m.
‘We will have local venders, great door prizes and good things to eat,’ a press release said. ‘We will also have a few plants for sale and some time for your questions. We are featuring four speakers.’ Lainey Harvick and husband, Joseph, are the owners of Harvick Farms Nursery on Highway 112 just outside of Cassville. She and Joseph provide numerous educational opportunities for the public as well as a large selection of healthy plants. Harvick will preview a few plants that are new in the nursery trade for 2024.
Skip Easter, a member of the Barry County Master Gardeners (BCMG, holds a degree in Forest Resource Management and became an ISA Certified Arborist in 1996. In 2002, Easter received the Forest Conservationist of the Year Award from the Missouri Conservation Federation.
‘She now lives near Cassville on her own Certified Tree Farm where she practices what she preaches,’ the release said. ‘Skip will be discussing how to successfully plant your trees for years of healthy growth and enjoyment.’
Cherie Love, also a member of BCMG, has been interested in herbs for a very long time. When she moved to the Ozarks about 12 years ago, she had access to native herbs and began studying medicinal uses for them.
She now makes medicinal products, as well as soaps and wines, and will share some of her processes with attendees.
Kelly McGowan is a Horticulture Specialist with Missouri Extension in Greene County.
‘Kelly will be recommending native plants for your landscape gardens that perform very well in the Ozarks,’ the release said. ‘There are many advantages to choosing native plants as they provide habitat for our pollinators, are very durable, and provide beauty at the same time.’
People are encouraged to preregister for the workshop through the Barry County Extension by email at barryco@missouri.edu or by phone at 417-847-3161. The charge for those who preregister is $10, which may be paid at the door. Walk-ins are welcome at a cot of $12 at the door.
