Penny Leigh Hilburn passed away on May 6, 2024 in her home.

She was born on August 22, 1958 in Monett, Mo. She was the second born daughter and child to Carl Lee Swearingen and Wilma “Jane” Flora, who preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death was her husband, Kevin Hilburn; grandparents, F.O. and Bea Flora.

Survivors include her daughter, India (Brown) Wammack and husband Brad of Carl Junction; son, Blake Hilburn and wife Olyvia of the home; five grandchildren; sister, Carla Stockwell and husband Ron of Loma Linda, Mo.; brother, Mike Swearingen and wife Sandy of Wheaton; two nieces, and one nephew.

She grew up and attended Wheaton schools her entire life graduated from high school in 1976 at the age of 17 and promptly moved to St. Louis to pursue a modeling career, eventually becaming a licensed beautician and barber.

She eventually relocated to Cassville in the mid 1990’s. Often times, she would cut someone’s hair free of charge if she could see they were struggling. She would be considered a “free spirit”.
