Business 37, Route 76 to be resurfaced

Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on Business 37 in Cassville and Missouri Route 76 in Barry and McDonald counties for a resurfacing project beginning Monday, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This is where the work is being done:

• Business 37 (Main Street) from Missouri Route 37 north of Cassville south approximately three (3) miles through town to Missouri Route 76 (5th Street)

• Missouri Route 76 from McDonald County Route U south of Rocky Comfort east approximately 17 miles to Missouri Route 37 in Cassville On Business 37, the contractor will remove the old driving surface and replace it with a new asphalt surface and permanent striping.

On Route 76, contractor crews will widen the highway, add overlay of new asphalt, permanent striping, rumble strips and new guardrails in areas.

Traffic impacts:

• Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are laying asphalt

• Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.

• Vehicles parked along these routes should be removed to allow the contractor to remove and replace the asphalt surface • Work on Business 37 will be done during nighttime hours (7 p.m.-7 a.m., Monday-Friday); all lanes open to traffic during daytime hours

• Work on Route 76 will be done during daytime hours; all lanes open to traffic during nighttime hours

• No signed detour

• Drivers should find alternate routes

• Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones

• Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/ traffic impacts Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete.

Weather and/or scheduling delays could alter the work schedule.

The prime contractor for the project is Emery Sapp & Sons, based in Springfield. The total project cost is $3.2 million and estimated completion date is Sept. 1.
