Donnie Spears: Completing the task

Philippians 3:12-14 “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which l Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Completing a task you have set out to do; there is nothing quite like finishing a project and being able to set back and look at it. But, far too often, we have a plan or we start a task and never finish it. How many of us have projects we have started at home, some big and some small that have not been finished?

Something comes up and stops us and we never get back to it; we just live with it.

It’s so easy to start a task but it’s a different story to finish it.

We talk about it, get a plan and even sometimes buy the stuff we need to do the project, but that’s about as far as it goes.

Christians, how often do we do this in our spiritual growth?

God has commanded each one of us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our friends and neighbors then on to the world.

Far too often, we start off with a plan, buy the stuff we need, start a Bible study and prayer plan and something comes up and we never get back to it — we just sit as babies in Jesus.

Is this a picture of your growth in Jesus? Our lack of growth in the Word of God and a distant relationship with Jesus is the reason we feel defeated or weak when it comes to sharing Jesus with others.

Hebrews 5:12-14 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses to discern both good and evil.”

God tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2 Peter 3:18: “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

How long have you been saved? Who can you teach, who can you tell? We are all called to share the Gospel of Jesus.

The reason we can’t or we don’t is because we are still babies in Christ. This doesn’t just affect us, it affects our family, our friends and everyone we come in contact with.

Now Christians, let’s look at ourselves — where we are in our daily growth in Jesus?

What I want to know is are you complete, are you doing the task God has for you?

Are you going to be able to say “I have fought the fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, It is finished!”
