Reception honoring local ‘Rosie the Riveter’

A reception will honor local “Rosie the Riveter” Hilda Howell on Aug. 2 from 1-3 p.m. The event will be held at the FEMA Event Center in Cassville, located across from Wildcat Stadium. Howell, a member of the National Rosie the Riveter Association (NRRA), was one of 27 women (aged 96-107) — and the only one from Missouri — who traveled to Washington, D.C., in April, to accept a long-awaited U.S. Congressional Gold Medal on behalf of all Rosies. Spooktacular Costume Ball

The OACAC Barry County Neighborhood Center will host the inaugural Summer Spooktacular Costume Ball and Silent Auction from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday at the H&H Pool Hall (former American Legion Post) on Highway 112 in Cassville. This is an 18-plus event, and there is a $5 cover at the door. All proceeds from this fundraising event will go to the Barry County Emergency Fund and directly benefit local families in need. The evening will feature live music from Frank Noto, and the No. 5 group on the Euro Academy of Country Music Chart, Sucia Rosa. There will be a prize for the best costume of the night. Peace Eatery and TexMex Munchies will have their food trucks on site for guests. Items for the silent auction were donated by Carey’s Cassville Florist, Cassville Dispensary, Pink Zebra, Designs by Debbie, SWMO Restore, Brittany Pinnell L.M.T., Forever Yours Embroidery, Michael’s, Tractor Supply Company and many more.

‘Stuff the Bus’ for Bright Futures

Cassville Bright Futures will host a “Stuff the Bus” event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Cassville Walmart. Bright Futures volunteers will be at the store collecting school supplies for Cassville students and staff to utilize during the 2024-2025 school year.

100+ Women to meet

100+ Women of Barry and Lawrence Counties will hold its third-quarter meeting on Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at the Monett Historical Museum at 422 E Broadway St. in Monett. Social hour is from 6-7 p.m., and the meeting will start after. Food, drinks and wine will be provided. The meeting will include a tour of the Museum, which received $3,000 from the group in February for 18 new exhibits. All members must donate to vote for the third-quarter recipient. Lawrence and Barry County Democrats to meet

Lawrence and Barry County Democrats will meet on Thursday at Angus Branch Steakhouse in Monett, located at 114 Chapel Drive. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Those wishing to eat should arrive by 5:30-5:45 pm. with each responsible for their own meal expense. Mark Osmack, Democratic Candidate for Missouri State Treasurer, will be the guest speaker. Barbara Phifer, Democratic Candidate for Missouri Secretary of State, will also speak via zoom. Democratic Committee meeting set

The Barry County Democratic Committee will hold a monthly meeting on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Cassville Public Library. Voter tabulation equipment to be tested Barry County Clerk Joyce Ennis reports a public pre-election tabulation test of the electronic tabulating equipment for the Aug 6, 2024 Primary Election will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, in the County Clerk’s Office.

Cassville Senior Center hosting monthly dances

The Cassville Senior Center has started a once-a-month dance and dinner event with live music. The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the dance is from 7-10 p.m. The Board of Directors for the Senior Center is sponsoring dances at the facility, located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. Dances are held on the first Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome. The July Dance will be held on July 5, going along with Fourth of July Festivities. There will be prizes and a 50/50 Raffle. The admission fee is $5 per person, and the dinner cost is a $5 donation. The menu is potluck, and attendees are welcome to bring a dish. All proceeds go to Senior Center.

Voter registration ends today for August Primary

In-person absentee voting is ongoing at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Aug. 5. The Clerk’s Office will also be open on Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon for absentee voting. Two-week in-person, no-excuse absentee voting began July Tuesday. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Primary Election Day on Aug. 6. Voters must present an ID to vote. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to the office of: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-8475311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee, party preference and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett can visit the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. Staff there will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov. The last day to request an absentee ballot is July 24. Those who have moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the Clerk’s Office. Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open

The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m. The market has farm fresh produce, flowers, eggs, jams, relishes, baked goods, handmade crafts and more. Lessons offered before Seligman’s Saturday dances

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free.
