Roaring River and Big Sugar Creek State Parks have a new superintendent.
“I am pleased to announce that Mike Busekrus is the new superintendent,” said Carl Bonnell, Missouri State Parks deputy Ozarks regional director.
Busekrus, who has been serving as interim superintendent at Roaring River State Park since April, joined Missouri State Parks in 2016. Prior to his interim service at Roaring River, he served as superintendent at the Nathan and Olive Boone Homestead State Historic Site.
Busekrus received a Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation from the University of Central Missouri and is a 2020 graduate of the National State Parks Leadership School. He has more than 15 years of experience in the outdoor recreation industry.
Busekrus began his outdoor career in 2005, working as an assistant director at Camp Foley, a Minnesotabased youth camp. In 2011, he returned to Missouri to work for the University of Central Missouri as Coordinator of Outdoor and Experiential Education, until accepting a position with Missouri State Parks.
