Jig On the Water, Aug. 21

Roaring River’s water is low and clear. There was a good little rain Saturday night that brought the river up a bit, but it remained clear, running 50 CFS as of Sunday morning.

Great dry fly fishing was on Adams, caddies, blue wing olives, beetles, ants, small hoppers, and crackle backs. I’m still using 7X for the smaller dries, 6X for most everything else.

Small buggers have been working well for me in black, tan and olive. Nymphing is working as good as ever. Pheasant tails, burlaps, scuds, sow bugs and copper Johns have all been working well.

Good plastic colors this week have been white, pink and orange, and the fluorescent yellow worked a bit in the mornings.

Rooster tails were good for the first little bit in the mornings in black, pink, white and brown.

Sight fishing is great right now. Black/yellow, white, tan, olive, and the gray jigs were all working well this week. Small glo balls and thread jigs were working also, and the white chamois worm was good all week.

With the water low and clear, use a good 2-pound spinning line.

Good luck on the river this week!
