Eldon Eugene Skinner

Eldon Eugene Skinner, 76, Purdy, Mo., passed away at home on Friday, August 23, 2024.

He was born on December 31, 1947, in Chouteau, Okla., the son of Ellard and Lila (Smith) Skinner, who preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death were his motherin- law and father-in-law, Clyde and Loretta Barrett; daughter, Lisa Bruton; sons-in-law, Greg Hodge and Kevin Donohue and grandson, Dusty Hodge.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Barrett; daughters, Stacy Hodge and her fiancé Phillip Brooks of Exeter, Mo., Cheri Skinner and her husband Chris of Chouteau, Okla., and Jana Weatherford and her husband T.J. of Aurora, Mo.; sister, Glenda Skinner Ryals of Chouteau, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He grew up in Chouteau, Okla. graduating from Chouteau High School, later attending Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., where he earned a master’s degree in business and education.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a teacher and high school basketball coach at Purdy High School for several years before transitioning to American Family Insurance, where he continued to serve his community until his retirement in 2018.

A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Arnhart Baptist Church in Purdy. Pastor Jason Mackey conducted the services. Burial will be private.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Eldon.
