Crane woman charged for arson at pair of Barry County properties

A Crane woman is charged with eight felonies after allegedly setting fires at two properties near Crane in Barry County.

Brandy Howard, 30, of Crane is charged with first-degree arson, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of knowingly burning and first-degree property damage.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Deputy Camden Roller, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4 p.m. on Sept. 6, Howard allegedly knowingly drove to the victim’s property and se a field on fire, burning a large area and about 14 round hay bales and an area of fencing.

Howard then allegedly drove to a second victim’s house and set the yard, a lawn mower and a Jeep on fire. The mower, located under the carport attached to the residence, put the house at risk of catching fire, Roller said in the statement.

Four minors and two adults were in the house at the time of the alleged arson.

A warrant for Howard’s arrest was issued on Sept. 17, and she was arrested on Sept. 18.

She is being held on a $50,000, cash-only bond.

A Court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
